03:31 pm - So. Vancouver 2010 Opening Ceremony.
IT WAS FREAKING AWESOME. Of course, I'm being a little bias being from Canada, but... IT WAS AWESOME. Let me tell you why.

-Intergrating the First Nations. Best decision ever. It's not just in the logo and in the mascots- the opening act involved them. Not only that, but the audience were given replicas of traditional drums. I think bringing in the First Nations, what with using areas considered special to them, is bringing in a culture that could someday vanish if we're not careful.

-The Parade of the Nations. Some of the things that interested me was the ones who were represented the first time.
~Among them was Ethiopia, which is a bit special to me because I have relatives who adopted from there.
~As it turns out, the representatives of India were found without a parade uniform. The Indian community in Vancouver joined together and helped them out not only with the uniform, but with other things as well. This kind of gesture warms my heart.
~Despite the loss of their fellow Olympians, Georgia went and did their parade. That was very, very courageous of them, and my thoughts are to them. I pray their experiences in Canada helps them cope with their horrifying loss.
~The parade uniforms were very awesome! My personal favorites were the ones with the women and the man being color-coordinated.

-The cultural acts were just... pure amazing. The costumes, the decor, the lights and... wow. It was beautiful, and absolutely a story of Canada. My favorite part? The fiddle sequence. Mostly because there was the entire cultural "pact with the devil" storytelling there... and the costumes... very gothic, but very Canadian too. (You can guess what I want for my Sims now, can't you?)

-There was the tribute to Nodar Kumaritashvili with the one minute of silence and other things. What's the most stunning for me was that he was my age. It really shocked me.

-THE ARTISTS SINGING. So many Canadian talents! It was wonderful to see! Especially when Garou sang, that was so unexpected.

-The technical difficulty kinda made me chuckle. There's bound to be imperfections in such a great event, but it didn't bothered me.

Also, I got a mug with the three main Olympic mascot (no Mukmuk) and it's really, really better than having a plushie.
